A short wave trough currently moving over the region is bringing
spotty snow flurries and light snow showers to the area. This
activity is mainly impacting the northern half of Kansas, but
thankfully no heavy snow accumulations are anticipated. As this
trough quickly scoots off to the east, so will the snow chances this
evening. Despite the trough, the gradual warming trend continues
today with southerly flow. Afternoon highs today will top out in the
lower to middle 20s with overnight lows falling to around 10
degrees.

Ridging will begin building in across the central part of the
country this weekend which will lead to much warmer temperatures. On
Saturday, it looks like just about everyone in the forecast area
will make it above freezing for the first time since 2/18. Locations
that received the greatest snowfall will remain a bit cooler. But
those without snowfall, especially across Harper county, may warm
into the upper 40s and even approach 50 degrees.  Highs on Sunday
will reach the upper 40s to 50s areawide.

By early next week, ridging will be firmly established across a
large portion of the country. While surface winds will be slightly
variable, general westerly flow is expected through a majority of
the week allowing decent downsloping to enhance the warming trend.
Highs in the 50s and 60s with lows in the 30s will be the norm next
week, with those having the deepest snowpack lagging behind on the
warmer temperatures slightly. Another short wave trough is poised to
dig into the Northern Plains and Great Lakes region on Wednesday.
This feature will be well enough removed from us to have any
significant impact on our weather, though it could bring slightly
cooler temperatures on Wednesday and Thursday. Otherwise, above
average temperatures and dry weather will be the story for the
forecast period.
